A massive undertaking took place a year ago within the three nursing units at Gramercy Court. While the State of California has mandated that all nursing facilities utilize electronic recording of medical data, the actual mandated deadline isn’t until the near future. Gramercy Court chose to move ahead with the program as it assists staff with documentation. All resident Medical Records are now electronic. This is a massive undertaking with manpower as well as hardware; not to mention the expense. You may have noticed the computers on the nursing units. This is an efficient and secure way of documenting. Automated Records, Orders, Assessments and Care Planning with Record Keeping are efficient as well orderly and a secure way of handling patient data. Although the hardware and software is in place, training is continuing.
There are touch-screens mounted on the walls for the Certified Nursing Assistants to input their data. Computers at the Nurses Stations are utilized by licensed personnel. The Interdisciplinary Team as well as support departments are all computerized to facilitate communication within the departments of Gramercy Court.
The Electronic Medical Record was introduced during the Bush Administration, but President Obama has followed suit, encouraging healthcare providers to utilize EMR (Electronic Medical Records) to provide efficiency, security and accuracy of care. Unit Manager Anna Pham is pictured at the Nurse’s Station with her computer. Nurse Managers also have their own independent computers in their offices. Computerization has enabled easy access to the managers by family members with questions.
